That is the only way I can describe the past few days.
I did not know what to blog, did not post to FB, did not want to read, did not know what to create...still had to do laundry (so I knew I was okay!) decided I looked like Dorothy Hamill with my hair cut and kept thinking of the "Gee your hair smells terrific" commercial...
and then, it dawned on me,
It is the last week before school starts and up until now, it has been smooth sailing...literally..and for the first time since my kids have been in school, I am not ready for them to go back and am not ready for summer to be over...
All summer long, I have been on task creatively, spiritually, physically, mentally..stayed semi-structured and going with the summer flow and now, with one week to go before it is back-to-school/work, I have become a whirling dervish full of unnecessary anxiety, not knowing what to do, when to do it, what to make, where to make it, etc...so much that in the past two days, I shut down and note to self, I do not work well being a whirling dervish and shut down.
What a selfish baby I am was.
Today, I woke up, prayed for direction, centered myself, kicked my own self in the butt and slapped myself across the face a few times (not really) but pretty much shook myself and yelled "get it together girl"
and now, I am better.
Here is my point...and although I am writing, well typing this from me, you might need this too....
PICK YOURSELF UP AND DO SOMETHING.
SHAKE IT OFF.
GET OVER IT AND GET TO WORK.
No matter what is going on, or off, how bad things seem, how confused you might feel, really....NO MATTER WHAT, as long as you stay spiritually centered, everything...and I really mean, everything..will be okay...just NEGU...
Thank you Lord.
In the 70's and 80's it was called "Shrinky Dinks" and now, in 2012, we are more sophisticated and refer to it as Shrink Art. As much as I prefer saying Shrinky Dinks, I think that is the "brand name" not the name of the craft, so Shrink Art it is and it is the main ingredient of today's Tuesday Technique Tutorial.
Now in the 70's and 80's, with parental supervision, you had to use the oven to bake your Shrinky Dinks art ...so let's give a round of applause for the woman (or man!) who invented the heat gun because that is what I am using here...BUT WAIT..BEFORE YOU SHRINK THIS FLOWER, PUNCH A WHOLE IN A PETAL...
Now add a coat of Picket Fence Crackle paint. I know the packaging says NOT to use the heat gun, but right now, you are going to do as I say, and dry away:
Using the Distress Ink Pen, I add color, blot off and dry:
Then, give your flower an overspray of color wash...
and dry with the heat gun:
Add another coat of color with the same Distress Marker and set aside.
Repeat the process above using a smaller flower (or you can do it all at the same time!) This flower is going to be the "center" so we do not need to punch a whole in it:
and glue the the smaller flower to the center of the larger flower. Grab a brad and snip off the post (the long parts):
Here is what I used:
I am tremendously interested in coloring.
It makes me happy.
It is something I do to relax and when we are relaxed, we are happy.
Good things make people happy.
Can I suggest that today, heck right now, you do something that makes you happy...because when you are happy, it just may cause someone else to feel happy...and that makes me happy.
p.s. I have a self-paced online class that makes me happy and just might make you happy, too. Click here to check it out.
This is our PATHETIC living room wall
This is what I am aiming for:
and here are some tips I am going to use:
and here are the photos that I just ordered in LOTS of different sizes from them
Now I need to paint the wall, buy some frames and then cross one off of my Summer 2012 list.
