"He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer." 1 Cor. 1:4-6
Today is Tuesday and I am starting something new called Tuesday Tutorials.
Most of the time I am going to be very elementary in explaining how I create something out of something else. Today's project was inspired by last years pumpkin and also my LOVE for the ART PAPERS I make with the Gelli Plate. Now don't worry if you don't have a Gelli Plate because I will give you some ideas on how to create something similar to what I do...
Here we go!
I started by grabbing all of my Fallish/Pumpkinish colors of paints and sprays, some white paper (I use printer paper because it is lightweight but durable) my beaten-to-death Gelli Plate and my equally beaten-to-death Brayer.
Basically, I am using the Gelli Plate as a place to mix my colors and hold my paint so that I can "stamp" it onto my papers several times. If you do not have a Gelli Plate, simple spray papers in the colors you want and/or load up your brayer with acrylic paint and "roll" it on on different directions. Lay stencils on your Gelli plate and stamp designs onto your papers or lay stencils down on your paper and use spray colors to create a design.
For this project, I am using two random "squarish" blocks of wood that I had, the paper I made and a burlap "ribbon" that came off of a package of really cute box of jingle bells that I bought at TJ Maxx.
(the top pumpkin in the picture below is from last year but I wanted to see how they would look stacked before I started) and really, the rest is as simple as it looks....use the paper you made to wrap the blocks. I do not want to make them permanent pumpkins (or I probably would have painted the blocks) because if you look at the three blocks stacked together, it is going to make a dang cute Christmas tree, so I just taped the paper to keep it together, you know, like you were wrapping a package.
Monday's are coming faster and faster and I don't wanna be the one to give you an anxiety attack but after this week, there are only 9 more Mondays in 2013. yikes.
Today Download Thingstodo and consider printing out a few of them to organize your junk. I made one for "things to do" before friday and then one "things to do" before December because when December hits, I want to enjoy it. I can't show you a photo of my lists today because there is junk on there you can't see quite yet and that is all I am sayin.
Calling all my California beach lovin' creative souls....
Me, You, Sue...and other creatives, on the beach in La Jolla, CA for a few hours, creating and dreaming...
seriously, how much better could that be and a perfect something to add to your Christmas wish list, the perfect stocking stuffer and the perfect way to kick off 2014.
Gather a group of your pals and let's head for La Jolla!
I am not sure if it was on FB, Instagram or here (or all three) that I exclaimed that I was soooo excited to head to Florida to teach the first of my Miscellany classes, but just as I was feeling excited to meet new people, excited to see my friend Jill and her family and really excited to teach new classes that I was feeling super confident about...those dang/damn gremlins, goblin, fiery darts, ___________ whatever you want to call them came on stronger than they ever have. EVER.
Early Friday morning while walking on this beautiful beach with Jill, I realized that because I was on my way to something good, something creative, based around my faith and something part of my purpose, the yuck started to surround me. When you open yourself up, sometimes that makes the enemy REALLY frustrated..and dang, he will try to blind side you.
duh....YOU gotta PUSH (pray until something happens)
The best part of that entire terrible day experience was the amazing feeling of how good it was to have pushed through...like a marathon, hands in the air, running through the finish line feeling.
Miscellany was good, so good...good in the best deep down creative way. Just the way I hoped it would be. The best way I can explain it is that we start with a seed and end up with a full bloom. and as corny as it may or may not sound, so was my heart. In full bloom. That was when I knew why I had started to fall apart out prior to departing.
Thank you so so much Jill and the girls at Whim So Doodle for always welcoming and
loving me. I love my visits to Florida and always leave ready to return!
More on Miscellany....
I will be teaching Miscellany 1&2 at Right At Home Scrapbooking in Boston to kick off the new year and dates will be releasing soon so that you can add the classes to your Christmas list!
I will be teaching it at Art Is You in Sept. 2014 in Petaluma (sign-ups for classes start in January on their site) and I would LOVE to teach near you. Keep an eye on the upper right side-bar for new dates added soon...and hey, if you have a group of friends that want to create and you want to have a home workshop, email me at homegrown1(at)att(dot)net.
At this point, I am really up in the air on whether or not I will be doing my Miscellany online because I feel it is so important (and needed) to get out and create one on one and in class settings with YOU. While my part of my purpose is to teach creative things and new techniques, it is more my purpose to connect, create and remind and while it can sorta be done online, it is just so important to gather and create out and about...we will see what the future holds..
and speaking of future..I have new things coming soon.
Love to you....S.
I am home and had an amazing time in Florida at WhimSoDoodle. I will recap my experiences and share the AWESOME colorful work created by my creative Floridian friends in the next few days but today is Monday and that means a new list for a new week.
Today, instead of grumbling about the junk ya gotta do, be grateful in all circumstances. Pratcice a little radical gratitude that you can do them and don't forget to do things for others...

I am headed to WhimSoDoodle in Florida today to teach the first two classes in my Miscellany series this weekend (there are a few seats still available just sayin) and I am kinda excited. We are going to create with paint, stencils, Gelli plates, paper, ink and make a big ol' creative mess together.
As much as it is about the outcome, it is equally important about the process, the inspiration we will gain from color combinations and the happiness we chose to have while creating with each other. My intention and hope for 2014 is to get out to a store near you, so if you have contacts with a local store or gosh, if you have a store, send me an email at homegrown1(at)att(dot)com and let's make a plan. I think this series is the beginning of something special for all of us!
Continuing on with happiness, I am referring to the notes from part 4 of "The Habits of Happiness" that Pastor Rick is teaching at Saddleback. Now, I don't want the word Pastor or Saddleback make you click to the next blog you read. I mean if you want to, then okay, thanks for stopping by, but the notes that I take and the lessons I hear are pretty darned basic and important so please, if you can stand it for another second, stick around.
FEAR makes us lose our happiness. It is said that ya cant be afraid and happy at the same time...although I believe I once doodled something similar in regards to this exact topic that contradicts that statement:
okay, so maybe I am a little off track because I used the word Brave. You see, I was happy to be going to SA but afraid, maybe scared and totally full of anxiety to be by myself, leaving my family behind and traveling to the other side of the world, alone (although I know that I am never alone) BUT I did NOT let fear make my decisions. Fear did really try its best to derail me BUT...that my friends, is where my faith and trust kick in..
it is not easy though.
In the doodle, I used the word BRAVE because my physical self was scared. I used the word Faith because my spiritual self was calm. Why? again, because I trust. I have to or my physical self and my over stimulated mind would get away from me, I'd talk my way out of it and run home.
Please do not think I am crazy. I am not crazy because crazy people do not know they are crazy!
I share this junk because I know I am not alone. I share so that you (or someone else) can get that "whew" feeling that your not alone (because really, you are never alone)
I think you get my point, I hope.
Okay, the point of this whole post was about happiness but it is hard to be happy when our world, our communities, our surroundings, our relationships and ourselves are full of worry, anxiety and toxic & emotional thoughts.
Ya know how to flush all of those down the toilet when they rear their ugly head?
Hold tight to God, to his word. "Hold tightly to the word.." Phil 2:16
Get a good grip and hold on.
It will be okay.
It's a promise.
