I am pretty sure we were the last school district in the United States to break for Summer and I am so happy it is finally here (and I am not a student!)
I have always loved the summertime and my 100's of hours in the sun over the past 30 years has once again reared it evil head in the form of Basal Cell Carcinoma (which is the most common form of non life threatening skin cancer) Never the less, it is what it is and so mid summer I will go in for my fifth "MOHS" procedure.
From age 15-25 I spent a huge part of my summers at the river with straight oil on my skin and Sun-In in my hair. When I wasn't in the real sun, I was at the tanning booth. I even went as far as to say "well, if I die, at least I will be tan." That's being a teenager. (and a note about this picture, I love how I am missing a thumb nail and that I have gigantic hoop earrings on with my bathing suit...but hey, I was tan and that is what mattered!
From age 26 to my mid to late 30's I said and believed that "Hey, at least the cellulite and fat looks better tan..and from those mid 30's up to a few summers ago, I have been arm wrestling with procedures, lots of stitches here and there and sunscreen.
My version of sunscreen is "8" with a side of Maui Babe but not anymore. (and I am pouting as I type this.) As I grow older and wiser, it is better to be alive than tan. #duh
This summer is going to look a little different this year without Diet Coke and Maui Babe but I am choosing happy and will soak up all that Summer and the next few months have to offer including a LOT of traveling. I created this little Hello Summer list for you to download, print and fill up with the things you are going to do, not do and choose. Download Hellosummer2015
This summer, I am choosing happy and SPF 30.
