Our Southern California forecast calls for sun and it is a GREAT way to kickoff our last week day before spring break begins!!!!

 
Starting later this afternoon, before soccer drop off and track pick up,  in-between morning meetings, laundry, a good run and a trip to the local farmers market, I am starting the "Great Shead-teau Re-do" and planting the ol "Homegrown Garden 2011"

"Practice these things and devote yourself to them, in order that your progress may be seen by all" 1 Tim.4:15

My way too many weeks of Mod Podge mess in the the ol' garage-mah-hall got the best of me and this morning I woke up and in my early morning quiet time, I tiddy'd it all up and now it is all ready to be transported to a new spot, well as soon as I make one...

 
Seriously, things like this make me giddy and while these are two big jobs that will take a while to work on, cultivate and finish in between normal daily life, I am excited, motivated and ready for the next part of my change....

 What's on your mind...what needs to be cultivated....tiddy'd up???There is no better time than NOW to embrace the chance to change, cultivate a plan and get to work!

Practice makes Perfect!

The Valentine & I have been making HUGE strides in our new practice of eating well, and we feel really good!! We visited the new Farmers Market and were able to gather a ton of yummy new fruits including pomegranate seeds and Asian Pears, along with some really good vegetables.  It has us both excited to replant the ol' Homegrown Garden soon and have found the lOVE for a new staple to the pantry..Quinoa! (Thanks Regina!)

 
I practiced my housecleaning skills this weekend as my "cardio" as well as taking a few GOOD walks (walk like you are "late"!) and man, was it refreshing..and when I was finished, and after a nap (or two!) I practiced my creative skills and that was very rewarding..try it..you'll love it!

 
Cultivating and Restoring is working well and I highly suggest that you just GET UP and do it!!! "Change is Possible..It is only the Beginning" but take it one step at a time...it is worth it!

Homegrown Garden Week One

Last week I gave you a little look into our new project that I call "The Homegrown Garden Project 2010" and we worked for four straight days, seriously enjoying almost every moment (the heat got the best of us a day or two) and had just as much fun bringing all of our neighbors back at different stages to show them and laugh at HOW MUCH SOIL WE used...

23 bags!

We created a blend of Amend, Peat Moss and Miracle Grow...over and over and over, until we had filled the raised bed to where we thought it looked best and then just sat and looked at it.

I have to say, even though it seemed that we lived near (or on) Bandini Mountain, we felt a great sense of pride.

and then we sat and looked at it again, and smiled.

 

who woulda know that a big box of "cow pooh" would make a paper loving girl so happy.

 

Early on day four we headed to the local home improvement store to look at the varieties of seeds and starters...um, why in the world does one need 17-20 different tomatoes?

 
we settled on four types of tomatoes, a zucchini squash, a burp-less cucumber, a strawberry and a few marigolds for pest control and we happily planted them like proud little parents (I was REALLY dorking out at this point)

 
and we also got seeds....Seriously, too many choices, so we decided to just get them all. (Just kidding, I wanted to see if you were reading).  We are now awaiting the first signs of growth from peas, spinach, cilantro, green beans and a pumpkin, oh, and corn!

So that is where we are at the end of week one. I will be documenting this each week as well as sharing what we learn along the way...

Next week, more photos and a little about how excited I am about my new compost bin and the pests that our good Lord created...
