I want to post a link here for Documented Faith Week 41. It is a new month which equals a new word. The word we are going to focus on is TRUST.
In church this past weekend the message was delivered by Os Guiness, Ph.D and if you want to watch it, go here. The sermon was based on Calling & Purpose, the great questions in life and the ever popular question, "What is my Purpose?" He spoke about calling & purpose and (spoiler alert) the conclusion to his message was this:
- We are called to know and TRUST God
- We are called to love God and Love Others
- We are called to share it with others
Then he said this in a prayer, which I re-watched online because it stopped me in my tracks and answered one of my "I don't understand until I completely understand" issues :
"Lord, you have given me talents and I am here to maximize and multiply them for your glory"
That is it.
That is all I have to do, no..
That is what we all have to do.
While that might sound simple to you, it defined something so clearly for me that I totally felt a shift. It was a #DUH moment because I have arm-wrestled, struggled, wondered and have gotten in my own way with "Why me? Other people get to do this kind of work" since day one.
I was questioning God instead of TRUSTING Him with what He is doing.
yikes! So sorry Lord.
Truth right there. I just realized that as I typed this. CRAP, I was NOT trusting God and actually trying to handle it on my own. (holding my fingers up in the shape of an "L" on my forehead)
If you read nothing else in this post (which I might understand because I am like a pinball with my thoughts) this is probably Reason No. 1 why I created Documented Faith. When something like this happens, I have a place to document it, a place to reread it (on a daily basis as a reminder) and a place to track back and see how God is working in my life.
Hey, I am not the boss of you but you should try it.
Alright, so with all of that said, late yesterday afternoon, I closed in on the 10 thousand mark of followers on Instagram and promoted a little contest to get to that number. As much as I hate to say it, I was anxious to get to that number but not for the reason you think.
Here is the thing you need to know about me. As much as it is NOT about who likes, follows, tweets or friends me, it is. You see, Os also spoke about using our resources and circles of influences with our calling and purpose and I realized that I could never do some of the things that I get to do, share and teach without the internet, without followers, friends, tweets and likes. It is a resource for me, a great way to get you know you, a way for you to get to know me (lucky you) and a way to share, remind, encourage, inspire and teach which....IS MY PURPOSE.
Brightest light bulb flicker to date.
The more that follow me, the more they see who I follow.
