Eggs For Halloween

I do not have alot of Halloween decorations so I REALLY try each year to create a few things to display for the day from the things I have and if you remember my eggs from earlier in the year,

then you know I bought a TON of plastic eggs on clearance after Easter....

and it got me thinkin...

Get out your Glue-n-Seal and tear up a bunch of dictionary paper and tissue wrap paper

and start adhering the papers to your egg

If you are going to make a mess, you might as well do a few...

and make sure you use your heat gun/dryer to dry them.

Now add color... I am using a few different things.  I am starting with Crackle paint: 

don't forget to dry in-between layers....Then add ink:and then a little more Crackle:and then dry...Then add a little stamping here and there: and don't forget to dry.  

Now, I created a ribbon to coordinate with my egg but forgot to take photos...BUT..I do have photos of making colored coordinated ribbon for another project, so just pretend the green is gold...

Grab a piece of ribbon, some tweezers, Color Wash and get ready to make a beautiful mess...

Spray a color on your mat.and then add your ribbon to the color and start to coat your ribbon...You can move your ribbon around the color with tweezers or use your fingers: and then...dry! Okay, now I also created a charm that reads "Trick Or Treat" using "Chit Chat" stickers, a charm and a little jump ring:Now all you need to do is wrap your ribbon round your egg, attach the charm and sit and look at how cute your halloween egg looks...

and of course start thinking about how great these will look created for Thanksgiving and of course, Christmas....

Tuesday Technique Tutorial

In the 70's and 80's it was called "Shrinky Dinks" and now, in 2012, we are more sophisticated and refer to it as Shrink Art. As much as I prefer saying Shrinky Dinks, I think that is the "brand name" not the name of the craft, so Shrink Art it is and it is the main ingredient of today's Tuesday Technique Tutorial.

Start by die cutting shapes from Shrinky Dink plastic.  I am using the Tim Holtz Die Tattered Florals die and my big bad never fail Big Shot.

Now in the 70's and 80's, with parental supervision, you had to use the oven to bake your Shrinky Dinks art ...so let's give a round of applause for the woman (or man!) who invented the heat gun because that is what I am using here...BUT WAIT..BEFORE YOU SHRINK THIS FLOWER, PUNCH A WHOLE IN A PETAL...

okay, now shrink...
and do not freak out and think "Oh my gosh, it is melting together" and try to stop and pull it apart. Just keep the faith and keep shrinking :

Now add a coat of Picket Fence Crackle paint.  I know the packaging says NOT to use the heat gun, but right now, you are going to do as I say, and dry away:
Using the Distress Ink Pen, I add color, blot off and dry:
Then, give your flower an overspray of color wash...

and dry with the heat gun:
Add another coat of color with the same Distress Marker and set aside.
Repeat the process above using a smaller flower (or you can do it all at the same time!) This flower is going to be the "center" so we do not need to punch a whole in it:
and glue the the smaller flower to the center of the larger flower.  Grab a brad and snip off the post (the long parts):

and glue the brad head to the center of the smaller flower:
Set aside to dry and then embellish something special:
