Every Monday I am going to walk you through a little of my color play process as I learn to embrace the colors outside my life colors of Barn Red & Sage Green. I will incorporate my fav's at times, but I am really working on stepping outside my color comfort zone and playing around with different color combinations on paper, fabric, thread and paint.
My process has no rhyme or reason so don't do what I do, do what feels right to you. Sometimes my process starts with paint, sometimes it begins with paper, and sometimes, well, you just never know what is going to inspire an idea in this brain o' mine. I am pretty sure it was this quote:
which lead to me grabbing all of my markers and creating color combinations and a color chart
which was totally fun all on its own.
But you see, it was raining yesterday, the house was quiet, there was Chicken & Noodles in the crock pot and I wasn't done playing so I looked at my new color chart, chose a color combo, grabbed the markers and a piece of Muslin and all I did was use the broad tip of the marker and create stripes. Then because I have a LOT of embroidery floss, I pulled out the colors that matched the closest, grabbed a pair of scissors and a needle, got cozy on the couch, watched The Help and happily stitched away.
I did not have a plan, I do not have fancy stitch skills and I am by no means precise on my stitches as you can see by the wonky Olive Green X's, but it is okay with me, and it really will be okay for you, too.
I just kept going...and going...
stitching and stitching
Now, I am not done, but I will finish this. What will I do with it? Who knows, but I know it will be something..
For now, it is all part of my creative journey on trying new things, new combinations and sharing them with you. Maybe today, take a little time to look at something and see it not for really what it is, but maybe what it could be!
