Last Weekend of Summer

It's here.  The "official" last weekend of summer and we are hitting the road in the ol'Mallard for a long weekend of camping.  Since I won't be here first thing on Monday morning to give you a list, I am going to give you one today...and speaking of lists, there is also one on our kitchen counter for the teenage family member that is not camping but staying behind like good boy to work...and take care of the dog BECAUSE THE DOG IS NEVER CAMPING WITH US AGAIN..EVER.

Handmade U

In October I am headed to Omaha NE to continue on my "Do What You Love Tour"
at Handmade U.

We will be doodling Carving and stitching together all day long!

Kelly Rae & Mission Kindness

One of the blogs that I read each morning is Kelly Rae Roberts and yesterday was no different except for the fact that after reading "Calling all Possibilitarians And Kindness Warriors"  I jumped up, grabbed my coffee and headed out to the ol' shead-teau and went to work creating for my mission.

The process I used for making my cards reminded me of the 52 Pickup cards, but with a twist.  I didn't use playing cards, I used lined Project Life cards so that I could create art on one side and write messages on the other.  These cards also remind me of the Brave Girls Truth Cards and because I know what special meaning these cards brought to the girls Melody created with, I know these cards will be just as special.

Ya know what one of the best things about my mission prep was?  The fact that I was excited and pretty much LOVED creating each one of these cards.  Cards that would eventually bring happiness and cheer to others.  I am hoping that the feelings I experienced absorbed into the cards as I made them.

I added very simple but direct words onto the fronts of each card using the Tim Holtz rub on's and I am in the process of writing messages on the back, while I sit and look at them. So, are you in? Miscellany - Paint

Like I mentioned last week, in order for me to teach you, I need to teach myself and that is exactly what I have been doing the past week, this time with paint.

All kinds of paint.. and all kinds of color combinations on all weights of paper making all kinds of art from art and I am ready (& excited) to teach you how to make art from art.

New dates and locations posted soon as well as the option to purchase my hand painted papers so that you can make art from art.

New House Rule

We all seem to have the same habit at our house (although not everyone will admit it.)  Some are better than others, some not so good so we are going instill a new house rule starting today (I just have to tell them!)

Practice

In order to teach you better, I need to practice and that is what I have been doing with my new smaller sized Dylusions Art Journal. It is a class in the works but I am not one to keep too much from you, so I decided to share the pages I did yesterday: I think it is important not only for myself, but a great reminder for you that "your work is your work."  If it looked exactly like mine, it would not be authentic-ly yours..

Now, don't get me wrong. I am happy, flattered and just fine with you doing it exactly like mine, but only AFTER you play around, try and practice with your own style. The key is to practice practice practice...and then practice some more.  It is a really good "excuse" to sit and doodle, because you are "practicing"..and while you are practicing, write out words that are on your mind and not only think about the meaning of those words, put them into motion.

p.s For the love of pete, don't forget to enjoy the process.  That is one of the most important parts!

Walk the Walk, Talk The Talk, Art From Art

I have spent a little time rereading my own words, like this post about fear, this one from 2009 about battles and this one from 2006 about being thankful. Good stuff, good reminders.

Now, for your visual pleasure, just a few things I have been working on out in the ol' shead-teau.  Part of my DIY "Miscellany" line. (more on that later)

Home & A List

Thank you so so much to all of the Oklahoma ladies for all coming out to My Heart's Fancy and spending so much creative time with me.  If you have photos, please email them to me.   I have a few, like this one of my new friend Adona.  She let me wear her 52 Pickup glasses for this shot: and to my long time friend Kim, for stopping by in-between soccer games for a quick visit.Now that I am home, the list of things to do starts.  Looking at this photo, I realized that I had already forgot TWO things that I have to do before noon so I will now be adding them on.
