A few months ago I was invited by my friend Sarah Martin to join in with her and a group of artists from all over to participate in what is called the " The Stone Collective Project." "The Stone Collective is a community making much of Jesus as we create art, photography, prose, poems or music that commemorate the wonderful things God does in our life. Based on the passage in 1 Samuel 7:12-14, each month we will collect Ebenezer Stones as a regularly practice in the art of worship via our creativity.
I immediately answered YES because I know Sarah's heart. Then I looked into what exactly an Ebenezer stone is. It comes from the book of 1 Samuel.
"..Samuel took a single rock and set it upright between Mizpah and Shen. He named it “Ebenezer” (Rock of Help), saying, “This marks the place where God helped us.”1 Samuel 7: 12-14
Once I read that I knew exactly what I was going to share about today, which, by no coincidence, is about my collection of heart shaped stones. I have one or two that have been found and given to me by my boys and a friend but most of them I have found along the way when I was focusing on getting through situations which were difficult and I needed help (like hiking Dreaded or running long distances) and little did I know, they were my own Ebenezer rock!
Each time I find a rock, I hold onto it tightly in my hand as a reminder that it is not my strength that gets me through rough spots. No matter the size of the rock, it fits perfectly into the palm of my hand and I am able to hold onto it, focus on Gods strength and it reminds me of the things I can do through Him. Each rock has significant meaning to me and is a reminder that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" Phil. 4:13
By sharing my love for finding hearts along the way and sharing the meaning behind them, I have inspired others to be ready for hearts along the way because they are always right where we need them most. God is good about things like that. HE is always right there.
It's a promise.
p.s...this is my sweet niece Kamryn with the heart shaped rock she found on a hike with me when we were camping:
