It was a WHIRLWIND July, I am home sweet home and have so much to tell and share that I just do not know where to start.
THANK YOU ALL for your kind comments, congratulations (and patience) on the Sizzix release. It was a great experience for me to be in Atlanta and be able to share and verbally educate so many on the basics behind the line. As I mentioned here, I am taking on the responsibility to educate you on what and how I do the things I do with the hopes that I inspire and teach you so that you can share with your friends.
I think (at least right now) the best way to go through the release is to just start with one item and then go through the 14 sku's every couple of days or so.
I am most excited about the fact that there are so many "out of the box" things that you can do, some really random..like this little idea using the Bigz Alphabet, Fresh Blossoms. As you know, Jack graduated from High School in June, so I made his favorite marble cake with fudge filling. Once it was frosted, I got an idea to cut out the words "Congratulations Jack" "Class of 2014" from white card-stock.
Now originally my thought was that I would lay the letters on the cake
use the Wilton Color Mist spray to add color
lift off the paper letters
and whala, be done.
That did not not work like I wanted it to because the whipped cream kinda stuck to the paper letters in places and there was over spray on others...
duh...
So I loaded up my pastry bag with more whipped cream and used the letters as a guide and simply filled them in, which worked just fine. In fact, I liked it much better because it became very dimensional.
I added on the "class of " reusing some of the letters from above and cutting a few new ones when I remembered that there are no numbers in the set. That is when my MacGuyver girl mind went into action. The best way to explain what I did was to show you these two photos.
Can you see what I did?
Once I made a few cuts, I placed them on the cake, carefully sprayed a little more color mist and continued on. Then I grabbed a few supplies I had (yep, I used to bake and decorate cakes)
and added some color to the stark white letters
To finish off the cake I curled up some ribbons and placed them around the edges, popped on a plastic cap & tassel and called it done.
Now if that is not out of the box, I don't know what it...BUT think about this. I used the letters as a stencil on a frosted cake so that kinda means that you could also use them as stencils on others things too...just sayin.
That's it for now.
Hey, if you have not signed up for my newsletter, now would be the perfect time to do it so that once these dies are out on the street, I can tell you where to get them and show you what else I am doing with them.
