So, have you been quiet?
I am referring to the quiet I talked about in the PSA No.1 On Purpose post from last week.
It is hard to be quiet, huh?
As I continue to type these posts On Purpose (no pun intended), I will just refer to "me" because I do not want to assume that I am talking about all of us. As you continue to read, wherever I type in "I" you can secretly (or publicly) refer to yourself.
When I am being quiet (or at least attempting to be) I have to focus and constantly remind myself to be quiet. It is simply because I have so many things going on in my mind. Please notice that I did not say " I have too many things going on." Sure, at any given moment, and I am not exaggerating, I have 100 ideas floating around in my head. Shoot, I can't even run around the lake without seeing a dang stick that I want to pick up and attach a little fabric stitched heart to and I will have you know that I am trying REALLY hard to stop picking up sticks. The thing is, I am one of those people that can see something creative in almost anything.
Anyways..
I may have early onset hoarder tendencies but I am REALLY TRYING HARD (and it is working) to thin out my stuff because I have to practice being quiet and I cannot be quiet when I have little mason jars full of perfect sticks, 10 totes of that wool felt that I love, 77 alphabet rubber stamp sets..etc.
Here is the moral of my random story. In order for me to be quiet, I also have to quiet my surroundings.
Ohhhhh...it was a light bulb moment for me when I realized it.
I can't quiet my mind when I have organized piles of chaos around me. Have you ever tried to take a nice, relaxing bath only to hear the kids arguing in the background, the phone ringing and the dog sniffing underneath the bathroom door?
yep, same thing.
Everything around me is amplified when I am trying to be quiet. Maybe I have or don't have ADD, ADHD OCD or LMNOP but I almost always have to have my space quiet to be quiet which is either in the shower or when I am running with my headphones on. There is noise but I suppose that is what is called white noise. Noise I don't hear so that I can hear something else.
I just reread that and it sound ridiculous, but I am pretty sure you get it.
I hope that you kinda understand what all that above means, In the simplest way, what I am saying is that to be quiet you have to get quiet and once you have that all set, then you can start to pay attention to the things you need to pay attention to.
ahhhh...another light bulb moment for me. Reread this:
"to be quiet you have to get quiet and once you are quiet, then you can start to pay attention to the things you need to pay attention to."
you can quote me on that.
When you are questioning, wondering or seeking or searching for "your purpose" it is vital that you are quiet and remember this: The JOY is in the continual discovery...
