So while I may not attach gigantic paperclips with strips of fabric to the tops of my pages in my planner, I did create some super simple patterned paper dividers for my A5 Filofax Planner (which in the planner world are called Dashboards) and in my "use what I have" thinking, I grabbed some patterned paper scraps, a pencil, hole punch, glue stick, scissors and got to work.
Helpful Tip: Some of the patterned paper scraps I used was lightweight so that is why I used a glue stick to adhere it to the existing divider. If the patterned paper you have is heavy card stock you may not need to glue it to anything. Another alternative would be to laminate your paper and that would not only strengthen it up but also protect it from ripping, dirt or oil from your hands and/or moisture.
I traced the tabbed dividers that came with the planner with a pencil (pay attention to what side the tab is on and what side of the patterned paper you want showing) cut them out, apply glue stick to the back of the patterned piece and adhered to the original divider. Here is a look at my dividers:
I had an older Studio Calico Acetate 12 x 12 that I trimmed to match the size of the clear piece that came with the planner and punched holes in it using a crop-a-dile. (a heavy duty punch is needed to get through the Acetate.
For now that is all I have done. I almost taped some older "Project Life" cards to the front of each one of the dividers but stopped myself. I am learning what I like and don't like a little at a time and didn't wanna get all planner crazy!
