It is Christmas Eve morning 2017. We went to Christmas Eve service last night because our entire family is teeing off at 12:04 and 12:08 today. Yep, we are all golfing this year. Typically the boys and our families lil pro golfer, my niece Kamryn, golf on Christmas Eve day and then we go to church and then come back to our house and eat Mexican food and play games. We are pretty big about traditions, so going to Church on "Christmas Adam" (Christmas Eve Eve) was a little different but it is OK, right?!?
So you may be wondering, "Do I golf ?"
Nope.
I am NOT a sports player of any kind. I tried my hand at softball when I was probably eight or nine. I was on the Dodgerettes and our uniform was yellow so I have no idea why in the world we were called that, but that was my one and only season of softball. I also played a few seasons of soccer around the same age, and ya...no. You won't ever want me on your team to play BUT I have some mean team mom skills, snack mom tricks and techniques and I will challenge any other team mom to a banner making competition even though I am NOT competitive.
So when the whole "we are all golfing" thing came up, I opted out of playing because seriously, its not worth spending the money BUT of course my mind went FULL SPEED into team mom mode and in the middle of 1001 other things, I got an idea.
I have a small Baby Lock Embroidery machine so I pulled that out of the cabinet and then headed to Walmart. I found "Bar Towels" which are just inexpensive white towels that I guess you can wipe your bars with but they looked like perfect golf towels to me. Then I headed to the craft section and grabbed some extra large eyelets and an eyelet setter and headed home. ( I went to Lowe's to get shower curtain hangers. I have NO CLUE why I didn't think to get them at WalMart while I was there but ya know, why ask why?!?)
Now I realize that you may not have an embroidery machine in your cabinet but you could hand stitch, stamp or shoot, use Puffy paint. Do they even make puffy paint anymore? Ignore me.
You could ask me to make you one and I bet I would.
Anyway, we all sorta have nicknames or I created names based on previous years of Christmas Eve golf. Like the year a crow swooped down out of the sky and grabbed Jack's burrito that apparently was sitting on the back of the cart and flew away with it. His towel is monogrammed "Bird Feeder." My dad's towel reads "The Marshal" so that he can keep the game moving and to help detour my boys from secretly unhooking John's set of clubs so that they fall off the cart when we speed away. My mom also will not be playing and will be providing snacks and drinks therefore, she has the name "Drink Cart Lady"
Once I had all of the towels embroidered, I attached the eyelets and shower curtain hangers to the opposite corner. The eyelets are super easy to attach as long as you don't smash your finger with the hammer, just sayin.
All of the towels are folded up and in little bags and we are headed to the course in about 3 hours.
In between now and then, I need to get the chicken in the crockpot for Chicken Tacos, go pick up the rice and beans from Baja Fish Tacos because they really do have the BEST food and get the house all set for Post Golf Christmas Eve festivities. Lots of hustle bustle but I am just taking it a minute at a time. Trying to pace myself and enjoy the moments as they come. I do not want to be stressed and I feel like I might be right on that edge. We all are and it just isn't worth it. We don't know when things could change in a matter of seconds so let's all make a decision right here, right now to just slow down and breathe...and enjoy..and remember WHY we celebrate Christmas.
